IKEA and strange names

So the snow wasn't really that bad. When I got off work on Saturday I had to help shovel a friends' car out so she could get off the parking lot. She also gave me a ride home as nothing was cleared in this area and I would have had to walk home in sneakers with snow up half way to my knees. I could feel the snow scrape the bottom of the car as we drove.
About a week ago now I was putting away some laundry and I guess I tried to push one too many pairs of underwear in one of my drawers and it fell apart IN the dresser! I had to take it out piece by piece and try to put it together, I got most of it but it will now most likely live the rest of it's life outside the dresser. It's a mad world out there drawer! I hope you're ready!
Today at work I was looking at dressers and found my way to Sears. I quickly found myself someplace else as the prices there were so high I felt like I would have broken something if I had stayed there. I have no idea how you can break something through the internet like that but I'm sure I would be just the one to find a way with my luck hehe
I rested my eyes on the Ikea website. I have ordered their catalog before and had a look over their things but have never bought anything through it yet.
I found this Dresser called MALM. It looks pretty good and comes in a wide range of colours and best of all it's only 149.00 Now I just have to figure out how to pay for it and talk it over with Jenn. We'll see how things go.

I like the strange names Ikea gives all their products. Such as the VANNA. It has two dots over the first "A" and I have no idea how to pronounce it, but I think this is something Lesley would find a use for. What do ya think Les??

Snowy winter blues

So the weather man (or weather woman...depends on who you listen to) says that tomorrow there will be snow for the St. John's area - How dare they say such bad words! Snow is such a ugly word to a person when they are sick beyond sick of snow, and I am one of them.

I know what people say "If you're so sick of the bloody snow then move down south with the rest of them." Well I say nuts to that! I wanna stay here and have snow. Just not as much as we normally get in one storm. It would be so much nicer if we could get less than 5 cm every time instead of the possible 30-40 cm that normally seems to accompany the words "We're going to get some snow tomorrow"

When I logged on here I'm sure I had something else to say besides complain about the weather but whatever that was has seemed to have escaped my mind at the moment.

Gotta love shopping

So today we made out first trip out to make a lot of purchases for the wedding. We spent so much that while at one place I swiped my debt card I got a "LIMIT EXCEEDED" flash all over the screen the cashier was using. Eeep! talk about embarrassing!
We got so many things, when we went home we dumped it all on the floor to pick through it all. It started to overwhelm us a bit so we made a list of things we already have and what we still need. luckily it seems the "What we still need" list is a lot shorter than the "What we have" list.
We also had to stop into Wal-Mart to pick up some black ink for my printer, while there I was having a look at the clearance rack of mens clothes and managed to find a pair of jeans in my waist size and leg length. There was no tag on them but I tried them on anyways and found they fit so nicely, and I did need a new pair. When we got to the check out the cashier had to call someone from the mens department to do a price check. Turns out it only cost $5.00 Wow! my lucky day!
Then while we were walking to Micheal's craft store Jenn found a toonie on the sidewalk! Double wow!

Banks are evil

Jenn and I had come to the conclusion that we needed a loan for our wedding.
We have tried the bank that I do business with, that seemed to be like a great place to start, or so I had thought. Little did I know that a bag full of stress and a basket full of headaches would come with going to my local branch.
I have to say they are all friendly there but being friendly is one thing while trying and get them to do something right for you is another. We had to try to get the loan 3 times because they kept on fooling up the forms or because of miscommunication.
All in all, today I signed the last 2 sheets of paper and the money is in my hands. Now lets see how long I have that before its all gone into the wedding, not very long at all I know already.
My parents were a great help throughout the whole ordeal, they gave me advice and tips and all that parental good stuff that just always comes at the right moment. I had worried about getting a mortgage in the future for a house but my parents eased my mind saying that it should be much easier since I will have my credit with this bank built up, I'm just hoping now that the bank looks at it that way.

Back from the Dead!

No that is not the case here, but I certainly understand if you think that after seeing that I have posted.
It has been a while - too long if you ask me. As usual I have no real explanation as to why, other than I just was busy and when I wasn't I just wasn't in the mood.

So it's February and that means only one thing!
PANCAKE DAY! or "Shrove Tuesday" as it's also called. I can remember years ago on pancake day we would rush home from school and eat pancakes for supper, which was always a treat. Now this next part may sound odd to anyone living off the island but here on pancake day we usually get things put into the pancakes. In my household it was always money. Mom would boil the money first because she was always worried about germs, then we would pick apart the pancakes as we ate them and collected the money. It got even more exciting when the Loonie (one dollar coin) came around and we were getting more than just quarters and nickels and dimes. I'm surprised that we never chocked on them, but on occasion it wasn't rare to chew down on what you thought would be nice fluffy pancake and end up chewing on a dime for a few seconds lol
Here is a passage taken from www.wikipedia.com on pancake day and the tradition in Newfoundland:
"In the Canadian province of Newfoundland, household objects are baked into the pancakes and served to family members. Rings, thimbles, thread, coins, and other objects all have meanings associated with them. The lucky one to find coins in their pancake will be rich, the finder of the ring will be the first married, and the finder of the thimble will be a seamstress or tailor. "
It's like a giant fortune cookie I guess.
As we got older mom stopped putting the coins in the batter and instead just put the money under our plates. I guess it was really a great time saver.

-Oh wait...you thought I was going to write about something else instead of pancake day? what else happens in February anyways......ah yes, Valentines day! Nah, Pancake day is much more exciting.

Once again, sorry for the delay in posts. I will try my best to update again soon.
