What to do?

I feel like an old person out of the loop whenever I try and read things about the internet, web hosting, website design and just anything new these days.
I get so confused sometimes I just log off and walk away.
I have this website here, I got it a few years ago and at the time it was perfect for me. Now I'm not so sure. Don't worry, I'm not talking about my blog in particular, I'm talking about the web hosting.
I'm not sure if I'm using the package that my hosting company provides to its full potential and I don't think I ever will. I just want a hosting company that will host my site and let me upload a few pictures here and there while keeping my domain name.
My yearly subscription is up in July and I don't know if I want to continue with it. I only have a VERY short time to decide this and not sure of my options. Anyone have any ideas on a place I can check out?
I would really appreciate it.

Gotta love the BBB

I have come to realize that owning a house has a lot of ups and also a lot of downs. In such a short time I've experienced both - I'd like to think anyways.
We have great neighbors to our left and we haven't even seen the neighbors to the right which I guess could be a good thing. We love the area we live in now. We feel at home and it just feels "right" here. I love the "small community" feel this place gives off, we've already made several friends here and I'm sure we will only make more.
Yes we bought a trailer and live in a trailer park, but once you're here you realize that Hollywood and The Trailer Park Boys have built up the wrong impression. It's very nice here. Our trailer is actually classified as a Mini Home since it has a peaked roof. Which is a super important thing to say when you're shopping for home insurance. When we went calling around for insurance first, we were getting quotes from around 1500.00 to 3000.00 a year! That is just way too much, when we started to say it was a mini home instead of a trailer it went down to around 700.00 and that is a hell of a lot better.
A big problem we have been having is with our house inspection. I thought that when you get a house inspected by a licensed and respected company you are in good hands and would not think that anything could have been over looked. I will not go into too much detail because I could write about it all night but long story short, the inspector over looked our furnace. When we got it checked by our oil company after we moved in they condemned it, so we have been without heat since May 15th. Trying to get this company to fess up that they made a mistake and to get them to replace the furnace is worse than pulling teeth. Since it was not working correctly and we were using it, we were being slowly poisoned by carbon monoxide, which could have killed us. We were going to take them to court but several lawyers said it wouldn't be worth our while (They really meant 'their while' we figure) So I contacted the Better business Bureau and now they are trying to help us out. It's now slow going but at least it is going somewhere instead of nowhere.

Drive by shouting

There is one thing I have noticed while walking the streets of St. John's, people like to yell at me while they wizz by in their cars. It's not like I'm jumping into traffic or causing them grief, it seems like they just enjoy yelling at strangers walking on the sidewalks. I can't even understand half the stuff they say:
"Throw out your balogneeeeeeeeeeee!"
Or
"Pit fats the shoe!"

I really have no idea. It all just leaves me with a puzzled look on my face.
I found that while we were going back and forth from the house to the apartment with our "old lady cart" It only increased the yelling. Who needs a MP3 player while pounding the pavement when you can be amused with the yellings of crazy people driving by.
So today we gave our apartment keys to the landlord. It's officially not our apartment anymore. Jenn is super happy to be rid of the place, but me....I don't know...it was a place of firsts for me, where a lot of things happened, good and bad. I'm not saying I'd ever move back, it's more like - Not trying to get all sappy here now - I've moved from one chapter in my life to another, from apartment dweller to home owner....imagine that.

Twitter

Come on! You knew it was only a matter of time before I go on twitter didn't you?
I really had no idea what it was till I took a good look at it today.
I would describe it as a mix of Facebook and a blog. You update it like a blog but it's quick little updates like your Facebook status.
Anyways, if your on it too look me up under sniptheelf

Home sweet home insurance

Is there anyone out there that has claimed that buying a house is easy? If you know of someone or just happen to be in a conversation where someone pipes up and says "Hey, Buying a home is easy!" I would like for you to do something for me....Punch em! - Right in the arm!
Because they don't know what they are talking about and need to be brought back to the real world. A good jolt like that should help them.
For a 'first time home buyer' it is anything but easy. It's stressful, nerve raking, disappointing and it leaves a bad taste in your mouth like milk gone bad, when you realize that after all is said and done you are basically broke.
We are in some of the final steps here as the closing date is fast approaching. One of the things that we have left to do is get home insurance. This is something our realtor said we need buy closing and the lawyer also said we should have by that date too. So off I go like a 'home insurance virgin' with all the naive perceptions it's going to be easy. I grab my ol' trusty phone book and flip to the yellow pages, There were like 5 whole pages with just home insurance.
"This will be easy" I thought, little did I know the horrors that were about to follow.
First place I called scoffed "We don't DO trailers."
"But you do understand I'm talking about a mobile home right? not a camper...or tow trailer."
"Of course I do." She replied "We just don't have the market for them."
Don't have the market??? HELLO!!!! There are several trailer parks in the area, isn't that a market?
Another place I called gave me a quote that was seriously 4 times as much as I had thought. I called my father to make sure this price was absurd. He confirmed it was and that I should keep looking. As I turned the pages the ads got smaller and less descriptive, but I called onwards anyway. So far I have nothing but outrageous over priced quotes. One place quoted me nearly 3000.00 to which I replied "Wowzers! That's too rich for my blood."
We asked a friend who lives in the area which company they use and they stated a company name that had already turned me down, so there is something fishy about that which will be investigated by calling back tomorrow.
So tomorrow's a new day and I will be making more calls. Wish me luck!

Ah closing day......

Not much new to report on here. The house that we almost own is getting closer and closer to being ours. I've been told that the house will not officially be mine till we get the keys in our hands on closing day. I can't wait for that day!
A little while ago we got a lawyer to do all the legal stuff, apparently you have to get one here. I was talking to a friend in the states and she was shocked to hear that we needed one. As she never heard tell of a lawyer getting involved with house buying.
Needless to say I was shocked at their fees, never needing the assistance of a lawyer before we had no idea what to expect. We were told about lawyer fees but nothing else about other fees that go along with it. With almost 2500.00 extra we are even more broke than we thought we'd ever be. But we'll get through it, we always have and I'm sure we always will.
Anyone up for a house warming party soon?

Bacon

Ok, so who doesn't really like bacon?
I don't think I have met a person yet who said they don't care for the crispy goodness.
With so many bacon lovers out there you can imagine the strange foods people could dream up that would include it.
This is where a wonderful website called "This is why you're fat" comes into play.
I have discovered the site not too long ago at work.
Basically the site is a picture blog of greasy, fatty, sometimes unimaginable foods and it seems like every third or forth picture includes bacon in some form or another, such as chocolate chip cookies with bacon....bacon candied ice cream and even chocolate covered bacon. Some of it seems petty tasty while others would seem to make your arteries harden and clog just by looking at the pictures.
Here you go: ENJOY!
